We are pleased to announce the results of the 4th Annual International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IMMC 2018) for the Region of Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau (the Region). Out of more than 450 registered teams, 49 teams from the Region presenting their solution papers on Regional-committee-set problems, Self-chosen problem, or International-committee-set problem in front of the Grand Jury on the Final Presentation Competition, April 26-27 2018, hosted by City University of Hong Kong, Beijing Academy among 9 teams were granted Outstanding Award for the reginal contest, and Pui Kiu College, Hong Kong, among 8 teams, Outstanding Award for the international contest.
IMC 2018 in Greater China Region functioning as a selection mechanism for IMMC International Contest, is an interdisciplinary practice integrating mathematics with science, technology and engineering, applying mathematics in social and economic context, and encouraging students to discover and solve real world problems of importance. We work with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE China) to co-organize the IM C 2018 in Greater China. The 9 papers recognized as Outstanding covering problems including EV Charging Stations (Winter A), Demographical Transition (Fall B), Connection Planning for Transit Hub (Fall A), Education and Economic Growth (Winter B), and problems self-chosen represent the best papers of the year. The 8-best, of which 2 from each area of Greater China, will be recommended by the IMMC Committee-Greater China for the Final Judgement by the International Expert Panel to compete for the international awards with the best teams from other 36 registered countries or areas (1-2 teams from each country/area).
Based on the judgement of Final Presentation by the Grand Jury and Paper Review by the Expert Panel, all other teams who had submitted solution papers were awarded as Finalist, Meritorious, Honorable Mention, and Successful Participant. Teams winning Outstanding, Finalist and Meritorious are listed in the appendix; other teams will be informed by email individually.
